What file type are my scans delivered as?

Our standard film scans are delivered as high-quality JPEG files set to 300 DPI.

Our JPEGs use 4:4:4 chroma sampling, also known as non-subsampled JPEG. Unlike the commonly used 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 formats, which reduce some color information to create smaller files, 4:4:4 preserves full color resolution at every pixel.

The result is excellent color fidelity and fine detail for editing, sharing, archiving, and professional printing. Our non-subsampled JPEGs provide beautiful image quality while requiring significantly less storage space than TIFF files.

For drum scans and flatbed scans, TIFF files are available upon request.

We have a detailed blog article that explains more about JPEG and TIFF files and how each has their role.
